Rumors surrounding the death of American fitness influencer and YouTuber Connor Murphy have spread rapidly across social media after reports emerged from Thailand of a drowning incident involving a US national bearing his name, according to ThaiRath. The speculation intensified after several fitness creators and online communities claimed Murphy had died, prompting widespread confusion among his millions of followers.

While Thai authorities have confirmed the recovery of a 32-year-old American identified as Connor Michael Murphy, there has so far been no official public statement from Murphy's family, representatives, or verified social media accounts confirming his death.

What do Thai authorities say happened?

According to Thairath, the incident unfolded after an American man reportedly began behaving erratically for reasons that remain unclear. A village employee recorded video of the episode, while security staff said Murphy arrived in a hired vehicle, paid the driver 1,000 baht, attempted to approach another resident's car, shouted loudly, rolled on the road, and made prayer-like gestures before police were called.

Authorities said he ran into the residential complex when officers arrived and entered a nearby lake. Witnesses told ThaiRath that he continued swimming until he appeared exhausted before disappearing beneath the surface in water estimated to be more than 10 metres deep. Rescue teams searched the lake for around 30 minutes before divers recovered his body.

ThaiRath also quoted a 22-year-old woman identified as Murphy's girlfriend, who said the pair had been in a relationship for about three years. She said they had lived apart for a period due to differences in lifestyle but had reconciled less than three months before the incident. According to her account, she had never seen him use drugs during their relationship and did not know what prompted his sudden behavior that day.

Initial police observations reportedly found no visible signs of assault or external injuries, and the body was sent to Ramathibodi Chakri Naruebodindra Hospital for an autopsy to determine the exact cause of death. Authorities have not publicly announced the final autopsy findings.

At the time of writing, no evidence released by investigators suggests foul play, although the investigation remains subject to official medical findings.
