Camila Mendoza Olmas search update: Unidentified body and firearm found during search for missing Texas teen a few hundred yards from her home

Authorities searching for 19-year-old Texas teen Camila Mendoza Olmas have found a body near her home, though officials say it is “too early to tell” whether it is the missing teenager. Bexar County Sheriff Javier Salazar confirmed that a body was discovered earlier in the day in a field located “a few hundred yards” from Mendoza Olmas’ residence in San Antonio, multiple news outlets reported. However, he cautioned that formal identification has not yet been completed.

Salazar said investigators do not currently suspect foul play, noting that “there are some indicators” of possible self-harm. The cause and manner of death remain under investigation. According to a CBS report citing the sheriff, a firearm was found near the body. Investigators had also been searching for a firearm belonging to a family member that had been reported missing.



Bexar County Sheriff Salazar went into detail about Mendoza Olmas’ mental health history and said, “There may have been some suicidal ideations on Camila’s part before. Some signs of depression, undiagnosed as far as we can tell.” But, from what’s being described to us, it sounds like it was a young person going through a very tough time in their life,” the Independent quoted the sheriff.

Earlier this week, the Bexar County Sheriff’s Office released surveillance footage believed to show Mendoza Olmas walking along Wildhorse Parkway near her home at around 7 a.m. local time on the day she disappeared. Authorities said this was the last confirmed sighting of the teen.

The investigation is ongoing, and authorities are yet to confirm the identity of the body and determine the circumstances surrounding the death.
