Armed man with illegal weapons arrested near Trump's golf course: Here's every security scare involving the president this year

A 38-year-old California man has been arrested near President Donald Trump's golf course in Southern California after authorities said he was acting "suspicious" and was found with firearms, ammunition and tactical equipment, prompting a multi-agency investigation involving the FBI and the US Secret Service.

The arrest comes just days before Trump is scheduled to attend a Republican National Committee fundraiser at Trump National Golf Club in Rancho Palos Verdes on Tuesday.

According to the Los Angeles County Sheriff's Department, officials detained Jeanine John Taele of Downey, California, on Sunday after he was allegedly observed walking around the golf course taking photographs and videos while "appearing to monitor security-planning activities."


Taele was arrested on suspicion of carrying a concealed firearm and possessing prohibited ammunition, authorities said.

What investigators found

Following Taele's arrest, deputies searched his vehicle and discovered another pistol along with additional ammunition, according to the sheriff's department.

Authorities expanded the investigation on Monday by executing a search warrant at Taele's home because of the "potential security implications surrounding the incident." During the search, investigators said they recovered an illegally modified AR-platform rifle, a 1911 .45-caliber pistol, an AR-platform upper receiver, body armor, high-capacity magazines, bulk quantities of pistol and rifle ammunition, multiple notebooks containing "concerning statements," and two radio signal devices.

The investigation is ongoing and now includes the FBI and the US Secret Service. Taele remains in custody. The Los Angeles County Sheriff's Department said there is no credible threat to Southern California communities.

The latest arrest comes amid heightened security around President Trump following multiple incidents involving assassination attempts over the years.

February 22, 2026 — Austin Tucker Martin

Authorities said Austin Tucker Martin breached the security perimeter at Mar-a-Lago while carrying a shotgun and a gasoline can. According to officials, he pointed the shotgun at US Secret Service agents before a sheriff's deputy shot and killed him.

April 25, 2026 — Cole Tomas Allen

Cole Tomas Allen allegedly rushed through a security checkpoint at the White House during the White House Correspondents' Dinner. He was later indicted for attempting to assassinate the president.

May 23, 2026 — Nasire Best

Nasire Best, a 21-year-old from Dundalk, Maryland, was shot and killed by the US Secret Service after authorities said he opened fire at a security checkpoint outside the White House complex in Washington, D.C. A bystander was injured in the incident, while President Trump, who was inside the White House, was unharmed.

The 2024 Butler rally shooting

The most widely known assassination attempt against Trump occurred on July 13, 2024, during a campaign rally in Butler, Pennsylvania. Gunman Thomas Matthew Crooks fired multiple shots toward the then-presidential candidate, grazing Trump in the ear. Rally attendee Corey Comperatore was killed, while two others were injured before Crooks was fatally shot by a US Secret Service counter-sniper.
