Following the incident, the suspect, identified as George Randall, 25, was arrested and is facing charges of aggravated assault and attempted murder, police said, according to local news outlets. The suspect is reportedly accused of stabbing his mother in the neck while she was asleep.
On Friday (May 15, 2026), during his initial court appearance, a prosecutor with the Maricopa County Attorney’s Office alleged that Randall stabbed his mother in the side of her neck while she was asleep on the couch, AZ Family reported. She apparently passed out due to blood loss. The stabbing victim was transported to a local hospital in critical condition and nearly succumbed to her injuries, but her condition stabilized following surgery.
The investigation remains ongoing. “This appears to be a completely unprovoked attack,” the prosecutor said, as quoted by AZFamily. “He indicated to law enforcement that he had been thinking about killing his mother for weeks and intentionally chose the location to stab her so that he would do the most damage.”
