The dispatcher was informed that the child had gone into cardiac arrest after being pulled from the water, according to PEOPLE. When first responders reached the scene, they immediately began resuscitation efforts. However, despite their attempts to revive the infant, they were unsuccessful. The baby was later pronounced dead at the scene.
According to WGAL, the investigation into the child’s death involves Pennsylvania State Police, the Lancaster County District Attorney’s Office, and the Department of Human Services’ Office of Children, Youth, and Families. Authorities said the baby’s mother is cooperating with the ongoing inquiry. The Lancaster County Coroner’s Office is reportedly scheduled to conduct an autopsy to determine the exact cause and manner of death. The case remains under active investigation as officials work to establish further details surrounding the incident.
According to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), as reported by CBS News, more than 4,000 unintentional drowning deaths occur every year in the United States.
