Ubisoft confirms ‘Assassin’s Creed: Black Flag Resynced’ remake and new mainline titles as franchise extends into 2026
Ubisoft has revealed future Assassin's Creed plans, confirming a remake of "Black Flag Resynced" and a new mainline title, Codename Hexe. The company is also experimenting with a PvP multiplayer project called Codename Invictus. Additionally, post...

The announcement comes as Ubisoft gradually shifts focus away from its most recent release and toward the next generation of Assassin’s Creed experiences.
‘Black Flag Resynced’ remake officially confirmed
One of the biggest revelations is the confirmation of “Assassin’s Creed: Black Flag Resynced,” a remake of Assassin’s Creed IV: Black Flag. Ubisoft shared the first piece of concept art for the project, effectively confirming a remake that had been rumored for years through leaks, ratings listings, and industry reports.
Originally released in 2013, Black Flag became one of the most successful entries in the franchise thanks to its open-world pirate setting, naval exploration, and story centered on pirate-assassin Edward Kenway. The game sold more than 11 million copies and remains widely regarded as a standout title in the series.
While Ubisoft has not yet revealed gameplay details, reports suggest the remake will feature significant visual upgrades, modernized mechanics, and expanded story elements exploring more of Kenway’s life.
Next mainline game: Codename Hexe
Alongside the remake, Ubisoft is developing a new mainline title known as Codename Hexe, currently being created by Ubisoft Montreal. The project is being led by veteran developer Jean Guesdon, who recently returned to the franchise as Head of Content and creative director for the game.
According to Ubisoft, Hexe will offer a darker, narrative-driven Assassin’s Creed experience set during a pivotal moment in history. Although the company has not disclosed its historical setting or gameplay systems, it indicated the project is still in development and will be revealed in greater detail later.
Multiplayer expansion with Codename Invictus
The company described the game as a fresh approach to multiplayer within the Assassin’s Creed universe, with development guided by community feedback.
Support for recent and classic titles
Ubisoft’s roadmap update also reflects on Assassin’s Creed Shadows, which launched in 2025. As the game approaches its first anniversary, Ubisoft confirmed that it will soon enter its final phase of post-launch support, with smaller updates continuing while development teams focus on upcoming projects.
The publisher is also updating older titles. A free 60-frames-per-second patch has been released for Assassin’s Creed Unity on Xbox Series X|S and PlayStation 5, allowing players to revisit 18th-century Paris with smoother gameplay performance.
