Neil Sedaka, the acclaimed hitmaker who helped define pop music in the 1960s and 1970s, has died at 86 after being rushed to a Los Angeles hospital on Friday morning(February 27), CBS News reported, citing confirmation from his representative.

Best known for timeless classics such as “Laughter in the Rain,” “Breaking Up Is Hard to Do,” and “Calendar Girl,” Sedaka’s melodies and heartfelt lyrics resonated across generations, cementing his legacy as a major figure in popular music.

“Our family is devastated by the sudden passing of our beloved husband, father, and grandfather, Neil Sedaka,” his family said. “A true rock and roll legend, an inspiration to millions, but most importantly, at least to those of us who were lucky enough to know him, an incredible human being who will be deeply missed.”

According to TMZ website, Sedaka was rushed to the hospital by ambulance after feeling unwell at home that morning.
