Sheets, widely recognized for his role on the A&E reality series 'Storage Wars', passed away on Wednesday, according to the Lake Havasu Police Department. He was 67. Officials stated that his death is believed to have been caused by a self-inflicted gunshot wound to the head.
Born on May 13, 1958, in California, Sheets became a familiar face on 'Storage Wars', appearing in 163 episodes between 2010 and 2023. The show followed bidders competing for abandoned storage units, with success determined by the value of the items discovered inside.
According to DEADLINE, Sheets stepped back from the storage auction business and reduced his appearances on the show after suffering a heart attack in 2019. In recent years, he had relocated to Arizona, where he focused on running an antiques store.
"On April 22, 2026, at approximately 0200 hours, officers with the Lake Havasu City Police Department were dispatched to a residence in the 1500 block of Chandler Drive in reference to a reported deceased individual. Upon arrival, officers located a male subject who suffered from what appeared to be a self-inflicted gunshot wound to the head. The male was pronounced deceased on scene and the Lake Havasu City Police Department's Criminal Investigations Unit was notified and responded to the scene to assume the investigation," the Lake Havasu Police Department said in a release.
"The body was ultimately turned over to the Mohave County Medical Examiner's office for further investigation. The male subject has been identified as Darrell Sheets, a 67-year-old resident of Lake Havasu City and Darrell's family has been notified. This incident remains under active investigation, and additional information will be released as it becomes available," the release further stated.
Fellow 'Storage Wars' star Rene Nezhoda shared an emotional video on social media, paying tribute to Darrell Sheets. In his message, he also suggested that cyberbullying may have played a significant role in Sheets' death.
Brandi Passante shared a heartfelt tribute to her 'Storage Wars' rival Darrell Sheets after his death, posting photos of them together on Instagram. She said she was 'at a loss for words'. Both appeared on Storage Wars, with Passante part of the show since its 2010 debut and Sheets featuring until 2023.
