He died from the toxic effects of fentanyl, methamphetamine, and lidocaine, according to the Los Angeles County Medical Examiner, as reported by TMZ. The medical examiner also stated that the manner of death was accidental.

Jackson, a renowned musician and songwriter, announced the death of his son Ethan, 52, back in November 2025. "It is with deep sorrow that we share that on the morning of November 25, 2025, Ethan Browne, the son of Jackson Browne and Phyllis Major, was found unresponsive in his home and has passed away. We ask for privacy and respect for the family during this difficult time. No further details are available at this moment," he had said back then, as quoted by TMZ.

Ethan Browne: Early life and family

Born on November 2, 1973, at Cedars-Sinai Medical Center in Los Angeles, California, USA, he was featured on a Rolling Stone cover as a child in 1974 with his father, according to TMZ. They were photographed with Jackson nuzzling Ethan's baby face. He appeared in the 2004 film "Raising Helen" with Kate Hudson. Ethan was also an accomplished model who worked with Isaac Mizrahi.

He was born to Jackson Browne and his first wife, Phyllis Major Browne. According to TMZ, he has a brother, Ryan Browne, born on January 28, 1982, to Jackson and his second wife, Lynne Sweeney Browne. Ethan's mother, Phyllis, who was a popular European model, died by suicide in 1976 when he was just a toddler.
