The Elden Ring live-action film, a highly anticipated adaptation of the global hit fantasy video game, has officially unveiled its full cast, confirmed a worldwide theatrical release date, and entered pre-production with an ambitious production strategy.

The film adaptation is a collaboration between award-winning production studio A24, original game publisher Bandai Namco Entertainment, and director/writer Alex Garland, known for Ex Machina, Annihilation, and Civil War. Garland not only wrote the screenplay but will also direct the feature.

Production is slated to begin in spring 2026, with principal photography and worldbuilding expected to draw heavily from the source material’s richly detailed setting, the Lands Between.

To elevate the cinematic experience, the film will be shot for IMAX, an ambitious choice which suggests a focus on high-impact visuals and immersive world-building on the big screen.

Official release date

Bandai Namco and A24 have confirmed that the Elden Ring film is scheduled for a global theatrical release on March 3, 2028. The date places the film well ahead of many other major adaptations from gaming IPs, and positions it as a blockbuster event in early 2028’s release calendar.
