Donald Gibb, ‘Revenge of the Nerds’ actor, dies at 71; What we know about his cause of death

Donald Gibb, the actor best known for playing the intimidating football player Ogre in the 1984 comedy film Revenge of the Nerds, has died at the age of 71. According to TMZ, Gibb died Tuesday, May 12, in Texas after suffering from ‘health complications.’ His son, Travis Gibb, told the outlet that the actor passed away at his home while surrounded by family members, including his children.

"Donald loved the Lord and his family, friends and fans with all his heart, and they ask for prayers and privacy during this difficult time," said Travis Gibb to the outlet, son of the actor.

Donald Gibb’s cause of death

While Donald Gibb’s cause of death was not officially disclosed, his son said the actor died following health complications at his home in Texas while surrounded by family. The outlet also reported that Donald Gibb’s death was not sudden, as he had reportedly been battling unspecified health issues for some time.

Born Donald Richard Gibb on August 4, 1954, in New York City, the actor began his Hollywood career with an uncredited appearance as a henchman in Any Which Way You Can starring Clint Eastwood.

He later appeared in several other high-profile productions in small, uncredited roles, including as a bouncer in Stripes starring Bill Murray and in Conan the Barbarian alongside Arnold Schwarzenegger and Max von Sydow.

Before landing his breakout role as Ogre in Revenge of the Nerds, Gibb also made guest appearances in several popular television series, including Alice, Simon & Simon, Hardcastle and McCormick, The A-Team and Magnum, P.I..
