Brad Pitt returns in ‘Once upon a time in Hollywood’ sequel in surprise Super Bowl reveal: Fincher directs Tarantino-written film
Hollywood's Super Bowl saw a surprise announcement for The Adventures of Cliff Booth. Brad Pitt returns as Cliff Booth in this new Netflix film. Quentin Tarantino penned the script, with David Fincher directing. The movie is set years after Once U...

The teaser trailer, shown during Super Bowl LX, gave audiences the first glimpse of Pitt reprising his Academy Award-winning role as stuntman Cliff Booth. The footage reportedly featured action-heavy sequences and hinted at a larger world beyond the original film’s story.
The movie is a follow-up to Tarantino’s 2019 hit, which reimagined 1969 Hollywood and earned Pitt the Best Supporting Actor Oscar.
The teaser also signalled that the film is ‘coming soon’, though an exact date has not yet been announced.
One of the most striking aspects of the project is the pairing of David Fincher and Quentin Tarantino. Tarantino wrote the screenplay but chose not to direct, allowing Fincher to helm the film instead.
This collaboration is historic because Tarantino typically directs his own scripts. Fincher and Pitt, meanwhile, reunite after iconic films such as Se7en, Fight Club, and The Curious Case of Benjamin Button.
The film reportedly carries a massive budget of around $200 million, making it one of the most expensive projects either filmmaker has been associated with.
While full plot details remain under wraps, early reports indicate the story takes place years after the events of the original film.
Cliff Booth is said to be working as a Hollywood studio fixer, a role that fits the character’s reputation for toughness and resourcefulness.
The film is reportedly set in the 1970s Hollywood era, expanding the alternate-history world Tarantino first created. The sequel features a strong ensemble cast alongside Pitt, including Elizabeth Debicki, Yahya Abdul-Mateen II, Scott Caan, Carla Gugino etc.
Notably, Leonardo DiCaprio is not expected to return as Rick Dalton, meaning the story will focus squarely on Cliff Booth’s world.
Filming took place in Los Angeles for roughly six months, with Netflix backing the project and planning a release in select theaters before streaming.
