The 62-year-old died on Tuesday (February 24, 2026) from smoke inhalation. after being caught in a barn fire, TMZ reported. Now TMZ has obtained a dispatch audio related to the fatal incident in which dispatchers can be heard saying that Brown was trapped in the building after trying to start an old Cadillac.

The audio also revealed that the wife of the "Law & Order: SVU" actor called for help. It sounds like a huge inferno, and the barn is 50 feet by 100, and by the end of the call, it's all up in flames, TMZ reported.

Speaking to TMZ, Brown's daughter said that her father died of smoke inhalation, so they believe he did not suffer from the severe burns he incurred from the terrible blaze. The Maryland Office of the Chief Medical Examiner told TMZ that Brown's cause of death was ruled diffuse thermal injury and smoke inhalation. The outlet was also told that his death was accidental.

The fatal blaze erupted after Brown entered the barn to jump-start a vehicle. A few minutes later, Brown called a family member for a fire extinguisher. But before the family could get to the barn to douse the fire, it was already engulfed in flames. His wife suffered severe burns while making attempts to save him.
