X will fund legal bills of people who have been 'unfairly treated' for posting on platform: Elon Musk

After 17 years with an iconic blue bird logo that came to symbolise the broadcasting of ideas to the world, Musk renamed Twitter as X and unveiled a new logo, highlighting his focus on developing an “everything app.”

Elon Musk, a free-speech absolutist, said on Saturday that his social media platform X (formerly known as Twitter) will fund the legal bills of people who have been treated unfairly by employers because they posted or liked something on the microblogging site.

Stating there will be no limits to funding such bills, Musk said in a post on X, “If you were unfairly treated by your employer due to posting or liking something on this platform, we will fund your legal bill.”

Libs of TikTok, an account on X that posts content related to the LGBTQ+ community, replied to Musk’s post highlighting a news report that Kara Lynne — a customer relations manager at Rippaverse Comics — was fired for following their account.

Lynne, too, agreed. “The situation is slightly more complicated than the headline. But yes.”

According to a Washington Post report, Libs of TikTok has emerged as a powerful force on the Internet, shaping right-wing media, impacting anti-LGBTQ+ legislation and influencing millions by posting viral videos aimed at inciting outrage among the right.

Late last month, Musk said that monthly users of X reached a "new high" and shared a graph that showed the latest count as over 540 million.

The figures came as the company is undertaking fundamental changes, such as rebranding to X, among other organisational changes, to boost dwindling advertising revenue.

Twitter is also getting more competition from Meta’s recently launched Threads, which saw rapid adoption among users soon after the launch. But, the frenzy has steadied since then.
