The messaging service was back online after being down for more than an hour.

"We know people had trouble sending messages on WhatsApp today. We’ve fixed the issue and apologise for any inconvenience," a Meta spokesperson said.

Outage detection website DownDetector, more than 11,000 users have reported about the app not working for them since 12:07pm. The outage peaked at 12:51pm. About 74% of the users are facing problems in sending messages through the Meta-owned platform.

It went on to add that the affected regions based on the website’s heat-map include major cities like Mumbai, Delhi, Kolkata and Lucknow, but we fear the outage is affecting users everywhere.
