Prime minister Narendra Modi and chief minister of Uttar Pradesh, Yogi Adityanath, launched a multi-lingual AI chatbot Kumbh Sah'AI'yak on December 13, 2024. The chatbot is made with multi-lingual capability to assist pilgrims and visitors as Maha Kumbh 2025 kicked off in Prayagraj on Monday. The initiative is a part of the "Digital Mahakumbh" vision.

What is the Kumbh Sah'AI'yak chatbot?

The Kumbh Sah'AI'yak chatbot, a generative AI tool, serves as a digital companion for millions of devotees attending the Kumbh Mela. It is designed to provide event information, real-time updates, travel and stay guidance, tour packages and personalised assistance in multiple languages to enhance the experience for attendees.


Developed by the Prayagraj Mela Authority and UPDESCO, the chatbot is hosted on open-source LLM provided by Bhavish Aggarwal-led Ola's Krutrim.

"Additionally, with strong security measures in place to ensure privacy and prevent misinformation, the chatbot offers a seamless, safe, and enriching experience for all attendees," a statement by Ola Krutrim said.

The chatbot is available on the official Maha Kumbh 2025 mobile app, website and WhatsApp, ensuring accessibility for users with varying levels of technological familiarity.

Features

  • It supports Hindi, English, Tamil, Telugu, Marathi, Malayalam, Urdu, Gujarati, Punjabi, Kannada and Bengali, due to its integration with the Bhashini app.
  • Users can interact with the chatbot through text or voice, ensuring accessibility for people with different levels of technical proficiency.
  • Integrated with Google Maps, the chatbot assists users in locating main sites, including bathing ghats, temples, sadhus' akharas, railway stations, bus stands and parking areas.
  • The chatbot provides information about the event's history, traditions and significance to help attendees understand its cultural importance.
  • Users will have access to details on govt-approved tour packages, local hotels, homestays and sightseeing options.

The 45-day Maha Kumbh is scheduled from January 13 to February 26. The event is organised every 12 years. The six-week-long festival is expected to draw over 450 million visitors, making it one of the largest religious gatherings globally with pilgrims and visitors arriving from all corners of the globe.
