Uber to add two new tech centres in India: CEO Dara Khosrowshahi at Bengaluru townhall

Uber is set to launch two new tech centres, in Bengaluru and Hyderabad, by the end of 2027, chief executive Dara Khosrowshahi said at a townhall in the company’s Bengaluru office on Thursday.

The Bengaluru facility will have a seating capacity of 5,000 across an area of 1.1 million sq. ft. The Hyderabad centre will accommodate 4,600 employees in a 901,115 sq. ft. space.

The announcement comes just a day after Khosrowshahi revealed a partnership with the Adani Group to establish Uber's first data centre in India.


Khosrowshahi met finance minister Nirmala Sitharaman in New Delhi earlier this week and visited the company's Hyderabad office on Wednesday.

Two-wheeler focus

In addition to the new tech centres, Khosrowshahi discussed Uber’s focus on India’s two-wheeler market and the potential impact of rising fuel prices, people in the know told ET.

“Two-wheelers remain an important category for us in India. We are no longer behind in the two-wheeler market. Two years ago, we were not even discussing this category, and now it has become a key market,” the Uber CEO said.

Despite regulatory challenges, two-wheelers have become a major focus for Uber India and remain among the fastest-growing segments in its portfolio. Last December, Uber launched a business-to-business (B2B) logistics network on the Open Network for Digital Commerce (ONDC) platform, further strengthening its ties to the two-wheeler ecosystem.

Addressing concerns over anticipated fuel price hikes due to the ongoing West Asia conflict, Khosrowshahi noted that India remains largely unaffected. “In the US, there could be some impact on margins, but not in India yet,” he added.

In February, Uber infused approximately $330 million into its Indian unit as competition in the ride-hailing sector intensified, with rival Rapido expanding its operations aggressively.
