According to a post shared on X by entrepreneur Pieter Levels, a delivery driver working for Uber Eats questioned the customer’s ownership of a Tesla Model Y 2025 AWD during a food drop-off. The driver reportedly argued that his own Fiat Punto was the superior vehicle, citing durability, lower costs, and long-term reliability.
The driver allegedly told the customer that the Fiat, manufactured more than two decades ago, was “built to last” and cheaper to own, and suggested selling the Tesla in favour of a similar older model.
The post circulated rapidly, prompting mixed reactions.
Some users echoed the driver’s view, joking that older European cars such as the Fiat Punto or Fiat 127 often outlast modern vehicles due to their mechanical simplicity. Others defended Tesla’s Model Y, emphasising its energy efficiency and technology features.
At the same time, European commentators noted a continued regional preference for smaller, easily repairable cars, particularly as Tesla’s sales growth in parts of Europe has slowed.
The timing of the viral post has drawn attention because it comes as Tesla faces a notable downturn.
The reversal marks a significant moment for Tesla chief executive Elon Musk, who previously downplayed BYD as a competitive threat during Tesla’s rapid ascent.
