Uber appoints Indian-origin Balaji Krishnamurthy as CFO
Krishnamurthy replaces Prashanth Mahendra-Rajah, of Sri Lankan origin. Uber's CTO Praveen Naga, CPO Sachin Kansal, and global head of mobility Pradeep Parameswaran are also Indians.

Krishnamurthy, who will take charge as CFO on February 16, has been with Uber since 2019 and currently holds the position of VP, strategic finance & investor relations.
Besides Krishnamurthy, Uber's CTO Praveen Naga, CPO Sachin Kansal, and global head of mobility Pradeep Parameswaran are also Indians. Krishnamurthy will replace Prashanth Mahendra-Rajah, who is of Sri Lankan origin.
“For those who don’t know Balaji, he is trusted by investors, knows Uber’s business inside and out, and is a brilliant, decisive strategist. He has worked closely with me and our management team for years, and I am thrilled for him to step up as CFO as we kick off another big year for Uber," the company's CEO, Dara Khosrowshahi, said.
"I want to thank Prashanth for everything he’s done for Uber. He’s been a great partner in getting us to investment-grade status, spearheading our first share repurchase programme, and steering us through several major acquisitions," he added.
In a statement, Krishnamurthy said, “After five years of 20%+ growth, we are entering 2026 with strong momentum, while remaining solidly on track to deliver on our three-year growth and profit outlook. With large and growing free cash flows, over the coming years, we will invest with discipline across a multitude of opportunities, including positioning Uber to win in an AV (autonomous vehicle) future.”
Krishnamurthy is an alumnus of the Management Development Institute (MDI), Gurugram, and the Manipal Institute of Technology. He did a stint at Goldman Sachs before joining Uber.
Among Uber’s other senior leaders, Parameswaran, who was the company's India head until 2020, was elevated as its global head of mobility in June last year — taking over from veteran Andrew Macdonald.
In Uber's tech leadership, Kansal has been with the company for over eight years, while Naga joined its engineering team in 2015. Uber has a significant technology presence in India, with over 2,000 employees across Bengaluru and Hyderabad working on global product and engineering initiatives.
On Wednesday, Uber forecast first-quarter profit below expectations and fourth-quarter estimates, weighed down by higher taxes and an increase in more affordable ride options aimed at boosting bookings, according to Reuters.
