Twitter Blue tick will cost $8 a month, announces Elon Musk

After days of speculation, social media bargains on opinions and just four days after his takeover, Elon Musk announced that Twitter will charge $8 a month for its verified profiles.

This means everyone who has a verified profile will have to cough up $8 to avail that feature on Twitter.

“Twitter’s current lords & peasants system for who has or doesn’t have a blue checkmark is bullshit. Power to the people! Blue for $8/month,” the new CEO tweeted.



Musk also said the price will be adjusted as per the country proportionate to its purchasing power parity.


In a subsequent tweet, Musk outlined the perks of having a paid verified profile.

“Priority in replies, mentions & search, which is essential to defeat spam/scam; ability to post long video & audio; half as many ads,” Musk listed them.


Musk also said there will be a paywall bypass for publishers willing to work with.


In a response to his tweet that said the ‘bots won’t like this’, Musk detailed the rationale behind the latest move and said, “Yes, this will destroy the bots. If a paid Blue account engages in spam/scam, that account will be suspended. Essentially, this raises the cost of crime on Twitter by several orders of magnitude.”


The microblogging platform has been undergoing rapid changes since the Tesla CEO completed the acquisition last week.

Musk first fired the existing top brass of executives including CEO Parag Agrawal, among others, then brought in new people to revamp the company according to his vision and finally made himself the CEO of the company.

He has been deliberating and discussing with tweeple about how much he should charge for the Twitter Blue subscription, a perk of which is access to editing tweets.

Earlier today, Musk replied to a tweet from author Stephen King who had expressed his unwillingness to pay $20/month for Twitter Blue privileges.

Replying to the author, Musk tweeted ‘We need to pay the bills somehow! Twitter cannot rely entirely on advertisers. How about $8?’
