After being overrun by impersonators in its first attempt, Twitter is relaunching its paid blue tick service again today. Users will still have to pay $8 a month for the ‘Twitter Blue’ service, unless they use the app on an Apple device, in which case the price is $11 a month.

In a post on the microblogging site, the company said, “We’re relaunching @TwitterBlue on Monday — subscribe on web for $8/month or on iOS for $11/month to get access to subscriber-only features, including the blue checkmark.”

Users who opt for the premium service will get additional features such as an Edit button, 1080p video uploads, reader mode, and a blue checkmark.

“We’ll begin replacing that “official” label with a gold checkmark for businesses, and later in the week a grey checkmark for government and multilateral accounts,” it said in one of a series of tweets.

The company added that subscribers would be able to change their handle, display name or profile photo. However, it said, “if they do they’ll temporarily lose the blue checkmark until their account is reviewed again.”

Twitter CEO Elon Musk had launched the subscription with verification plan last month but pulled it after several fake accounts misused the feature by impersonating brands and celebrities.

While the company has not revealed why it has increased the price for iOS users, Musk has been fiercely critical of Apple’s 30% commission on App Store purchases. It is believed that the revised price will help the company offset the cost

Musk had criticised the App Store cut, calling it a “hidden 30 per cent tax on the Internet”.

Separately, after a meeting with Apple CEO Tim Cook, Musk said that they had “resolved” misunderstandings over the micro-blogging platform possibly being removed from the App Store.

Meanwhile, Musk has confirmed that the microblogging platform will increase its tweet character limit from 280 to 4,000.

A user asked Musk, “Elon is it true that Twitter is set to increase the characters from 280 to 4000?”
