OpenAI, SoftBank, and Oracle plan to launch a joint venture named Stargate, with an initial commitment of $100 billion, scaling up to $500 billion over the next four years, as per media reports.
The expected announcement was first reported by CBS.
SoftBank CEO Masayoshi Son, OpenAI's Sam Altman, and Oracle's Larry Ellison are scheduled to visit the White House on Tuesday, as per the CBS report.
Oracle's shares climbed 6% following the reports, while Nvidia, Arm Holdings, and Dell also saw their stocks rise.
In March 2024, The Information, a technology news platform, reported that OpenAI and Microsoft were planning a $100 billion data centre project, which included an AI supercomputer also named Stargate, slated for a 2028 launch. It remains unclear if the upcoming announcement is an update on this earlier initiative.
