The report said future growth will depend on strengthening supply-chain depth and capturing higher value across the semiconductor ecosystem, supported by the Semicon 2.0 programme and rising global investments.

Chennai, Chief Minister C Joseph Vijay on Thursday unveiled Tamil Nadu's Semiconductor Ecosystem Policy 2026 in a major push to position the state as India's premier hub in the sector.

The initiative, taken forward by the Industries, Investment Promotion, and Commerce Department, is designed to attract massive investments into the state's semiconductor sector and bolster cutting-edge electronic manufacturing, the government said.

The policy launched by the chief minister at the Secretariat here in the presence of Industries Minister S Keerthana is designed to position Tamil Nadu as a major competitive hub for microchip production by aligning with the Union government's national Semicon 2.0 programme.

The scheme builds directly on the state's recent infrastructure push, notably the upcoming Rs 175-crore semiconductor and electronics park, which spans 422 acres at Maduramangalam in Kancheepuram district, a release said.

Hand-in-hand with this rollout, the administration is aggressively pursuing to scale Tamil Nadu into a USD 1.5 trillion economy by 2036, the release added.

The launch event took place alongside the unveiling of the massive CapitaLand Data Centre Chennai 01 facility, aimed at expanding both the hardware manufacturing and digital infrastructure pillars of the state, the release further added.
