The GAC that will look into user complaints regarding unsatisfactory grievance redressal by social media intermediaries was launched by Minister of State for Electronics and IT Rajeev Chandrasekhar on Tuesday.

Representatives of companies like Meta, Snap, Google, ShareChat and others, officials from the IT ministry along with GAC members were present during the launch.

ET reported on Tuesday that a technology platform has been created to process these user complaints and that they will automatically be segregated and sent to one of the three government-appointed GACs.

Sources told ET that the first committee will be led by the Ministry of Home Affairs and will largely deal with complaints on illegal or criminal activities.

Another one will be under the Ministry of Information and Broadcasting and will handle misinformation or fake content.

The third committee will be led by the IT ministry and will work on issues relating to copyright issues or any other unlawful activity that is otherwise not covered elsewhere.
