Samiran Gupta to head public policy for Twitter in India

Samiran Gupta will lead the company’s public policy and philanthropy efforts in India and South Asia.

Pune: Samiran Gupta has been named the new head of policy for microblogging platform Twitter in India. He will lead the company’s public policy and philanthropy efforts in India and South Asia.

Twitter’s Senior Director Public Policy & Philanthropy, APAC, Kathleen Reen took to the microblogging platform to announce the new appointment. “Pleased to welcome @Samiran01 to @Twitter to lead our public @Policy & philanthropy efforts in India & S Asia. A deeply respected leader in public affairs & tech policy, we’re excited Samiran joins our journey toward an inclusive & open Internet that empowers public conversation,” she said.



Gupta, a public policy veteran was head of Public policy, South Asia for The Internet Corporation for Assigned Names and Numbers (ICANN) prior to this. He tweeted, “Thrilled to join Twitter to lead the Public Policy team’s work and engage with govts, NGOs, and partners in India & South Asia. Can’t wait to get started with the incredible Policy team and contribute towards an Internet that is a global force for good.”

In February 2021, Mahima Kaul, who handled public policy for Twitter in India announced that she was stepping down from her role citing personal reasons. In recent months, Twitter has been at the receiving end of the Indian government over the issue of blocking and unblocking certain handles tweeting about farmer protests.
