Prime minister Narendra Modi on Friday lauded space startup Pixxel for its satellite constellation Fireflies launched on Tuesday, highlighting the talent in India's youth.

"India's first private satellite constellation by @PixxelSpace showcases the exceptional talent of India's youth and highlights the expanding capabilities of our private sector in the space industry," PM Modi said in a post on X.

The Bengaluru-based hyperspectral imaging startup plans to deploy 18 satellites in its constellation, providing advanced climate and Earth insights.

Firefly satellites were launched via SpaceX’s Exolaunch, offering unmatched accuracy in detecting changes in vegetation, water quality and atmospheric conditions. These satellites will capture data across 150 spectral bands, uncovering patterns invisible to traditional Earth Observation systems, Pixxel explained.

The company plans to launch three additional satellites in 2025 to monitor deforestation and ocean pollution in near real time.
