ONDC appoints Vibhor Jain as acting CEO; hunt on for Koshy’s successor

The Open Network for Digital Commerce (ONDC) has announced that Vibhor Jain, currently chief operating officer and part of its eight-member executive committee, will assume the role of acting chief executive officer (CEO) with immediate effect.

In a statement on Tuesday, the government-backed ecommerce platform said that all executive powers will transition to Jain as the organisation continues the process of looking for a new managing director and CEO.

With the transition to a single point of leadership, the responsibilities previously overseen by the eight-member executive committee will now be integrated under the acting CEO's purview, marking the conclusion of the committee's interim role, ONDC said in the press release.


The executive committee has played a crucial role in steering ONDC after former CEO T Koshy had stepped down on April 9, ensuring operational continuity and progress across key initiatives, the statement said.

“At a time when ONDC is expanding its footprint and impact across the country, I am committed to working closely with the Board, stakeholders, and the broader ecosystem to ensure continuity,” Jain said in the statement.

Since its inception, ONDC has surpassed 200 million transactions in under three years. However, as per its website, retail orders declined from 45,75,690 orders in February to 43,42,204 orders in March before increasing to 46,92,493 orders in April.

“With several key strategic decisions underway, it is imperative to have a single point of leadership to drive cohesive execution,” Suresh Sethi, board member, ONDC, said in the statement.
