NPCI disconnects C-Edge Tech from retail payments after alleged ransomware attack
Operations of the JV company between TCS and SBI, which provides payment services to regional rural banks and cooperative banks, were isolated to prevent an impact on the payment ecosystem.

The Mumbai-based technology company primarily offers payment services to regional rural banks and cooperative banks. C-Edge is a joint venture between software major TCS and the State Bank of India.
Taking to X (formerly Twitter), NPCI said: “To prevent a larger impact on the payment ecosystem, NPCI has temporarily isolated C-Edge Technologies from accessing the retail payment systems operated by NPCI.”
Due to this move, customers of all the banks which are powered by C-Edge Technologies will not be able to access retail payment services like UPI, IMPS, and those provided by NPCI.
“In terms of overall volume impact it will be less than 1%, but NPCI had to isolate its systems to ensure the larger banking ecosystem is safe,” said a senior banker in the know. “The restoration work has already started. The banks should come back online by tomorrow”
