More than 43,000 people working in iPhone manufacturing in Tamil Nadu: MoS IT Jitin Prasada

Responding to a question, Prasad said that 24 electronics manufacturing clusters and four common facility centres had been approved and set up in 19 states under the central government’s schemes.

More than 43,000 people are engaged in the manufacturing process of Apple’s iPhones in Tamil Nadu alone, the minister of state for electronics and information technology Jitin Prasada informed the Lok Sabha on Wednesday.

Responding to a question, Prasad said that 24 electronics manufacturing clusters and four common facility centres had been approved and set up in 19 states under the central government’s schemes.

The government received 33 applications from applicants to set up manufacturing units under the IT ministry’s modified special incentive package scheme (M-SIPS).


“The total production carried out by companies who have commenced manufacturing in Tamil Nadu state is Rs 1,38,452 crore. The total exports carried out by such companies for products approved under MSIPS is Rs 57,720 crore,” Prasad informed the lower house of the Parliament.
