LPG shortage drives IndianOil ONE past ChatGPT on Google Play Store; HP Pay, HelloBPCL also climb charts

Recent LPG refill delays across several Indian cities have driven a sharp increase in downloads of LPG filling utility apps. This is evident from the fact that the IndianOil ONE app has climbed to the top of the Google Play Store’s Top Free Apps chart, surpassing OpenAI’s ChatGPT.

The surge reflects how consumers shift toward essential service tools when everyday utilities face disruptions.

Other LPG provider apps have also gained traction. HP Pay, developed by Hindustan Petroleum Corporation Limited, and HelloBPCL for Business from Bharat Petroleum Corporation Limited, are currently among the top three apps after IndianOil ONE in the business category on the Play Store, indicating strong demand for digital cylinder booking and delivery tracking.


The spike in downloads has placed heavy pressure on the platforms. The IndianOil ONE app, which holds a 4.4 rating on the Play Store, is reportedly experiencing extremely high traffic and has temporarily limited some features, including new registrations.

The popularity of these apps is linked to ongoing LPG supply delays amid the Iran-US-Israel war, which has pushed households to rely on mobile platforms to book refills and monitor delivery status instead of contacting distributors or visiting agencies in person.

These utility apps serve as the central platforms for customers to book LPG cylinders, check booking history, locate distributors, raise service requests, change distributors, and request maintenance services.
