Lam’s senior vice president in charge of global products group Sesha Varadarajan is expected to make an announcement at the global investors meet in Bengaluru today. The investment will happen over the next few years.
The investor will get incentives for investing in a semicon unit both from the Centre and the State. “One more milestone in our semiconductor journey: Lam Research announces major investment of over Rs 10,000 cr in India. Big vote of confidence in PM Modi’s semiconductor vision,” union minister Ashwini Vaishnaw tweeted.
Industries Minister MB Patil, Principal Secretary, Industries, S Selvakumar and Industries Commissioner Gunjan Krishna had pursued the investment leading to its fruition.
Lam Research is engaged in the design, manufacture, refurbishment of semiconductor processing equipment used in the fabrication of ICs. It also develops tools essential for semiconductor manufacturing. These tools are used in wafer processing and wiring of semiconductor devices.
Karnataka Industrial Areas Development Board (KIADB) will earmark a land parcel to help Lam pursue a planned development.
The government has plans to become a global hub for semiconductor manufacturing and design.
