Indian microblogging platform Koo has clocked five million downloads in the last quarter and has added several cricketers, former cricketers and former commentators ahead of the T-20 World Cup.

“We announced our 10 million downloads mark in August,” said CEO Aprameya Radhakrishna. “In the last quarter, we added five million downloads. The growth of Koo is accelerating. KL Rahul and Virat Kohli joined the platform recently. Six months ago, it was a lot about the government coming in, the opposition coming in. Political expression on Koo really took off. We want to be a platform for all forms of interests and expression.”

“We haven’t started monetisation yet. We will be focused on growth till we get at least a minimum 100 million downloads. Till then it’s about acceleration to get to those numbers. We should hit that mark in a year,” he added.

Koo has also launched its first ever TVC campaign targeted at the T-20 World Cup. The campaign, conceptualised by Ogilvy India, consists of a series of short-format 20 second advertisements centred around the tagline ‘KooKiyaKya’.
