Mysuru-based Kaynes Semicon on Thursday signed up with Semiconductor Fabless Accelerator Lab (SFAL), offering its services to handhold SFAL-affiliated startups with Outsourced Semiconductor Assembly and Test (OSAT) activities.

SFAL, set up as a Center of Excellence (CoE) by the IT ministry, has been instrumental in nurturing the growth of the state’s tech ecosystem, the Karnataka Digital Economy Mission (KDEM) said in a statement.

The partnership would facilitate OSAT activities within the state, which were previously conducted outside. The strategic move is set to benefit local startups associated with SAFL, enabling them to fabricate their products more efficiently, the statement said, adding that the collaboration is aimed at expanding this ecosystem within Karnataka.

The memorandum of understanding was signed by SFAL chief executive K Sridhar and Kaynes Semicon chief executive Raghu Panicker. The agreement enables SFAL-affiliated startups to receive support, marking a commitment to foster their growth and innovation. The partnership guarantees vital resources and strategic guidance, enabling the startups to thrive within the state. About 33 startups are currently affiliated to SFAL.

The agreement also includes the slated rollout of the first production line by April 2024, the statement added.
