JanAI Technology launches AI platform for rural consumers

JanAI startup JanAI Technology has been launched to provide artificial intelligence-enabled services to rural and peri-urban consumers through a network of JanAI Cafes.

Vishwesh Pai, a former Atlassian product executive, has joined JanAI Technology as cofounder and chief executive officer.

JanAI founder Madan Padaki will serve as cofounder, while Head Held High Foundation will be the community capability and resilience partner, said the firm in a release.


The company plans to offer AI-enabled services across government schemes, finance, healthcare, agriculture, education, jobs and MSME services. It will use open-source and Indic speech models, with a focus on voice-based access in Indian languages.

The first version of the platform went live across nine JanAI Cafes, including seven launched in Mysuru and Prayagraj districts on Wednesday. The company plans to onboard 100,000 citizens by March 2027 and expand its cafe network across taluks over the next three years.

The platform has four components. JanAI Asha is a voice-based assistant that can be accessed through a phone call or a two-way app in Indian languages. JanAI Adopt is the platform layer for AI agents, knowledge, scheme eligibility and data privacy.

JanAI Bazaar is a marketplace covering finance, health, agriculture, education, jobs and government schemes, while JanAI Cafes will provide physical access to these services through locally trained entrepreneurs.

The company's initial services will include access to social-security benefits, job discovery through the Bluedots model in partnership with EkStep Foundation, and financial services through integrations such as Whatsloan.

Padaki said the JanAI Cafe model would allow local entrepreneurs to earn income by helping citizens access services and solutions.

“I visualise a JanAI Cafe as an enterprise owned by the village it stands in. When a tangible outcome is delivered, the entrepreneur who facilitates it also earns the income,” he said.

Head Held High Foundation, which operates across 22 states, will work with local communities and entrepreneurs to train people to operate the JanAI Cafes, the company said.

JanAI Technology said it will not develop foundation models and will instead build applications and services on existing open-source and Indic AI models.
