Internet has a field day with ChatGPT-generated ‘Ghibli’ images; Sam Altman joins in

With OpenAI's new image generation feature, ChatGPT users are unleashing a wave of creativity, sharing Japanese Ghibli-style artwork from detailed prompts.

Studio Ghibli, founded in 1985 by Hayao Miyazaki, Isao Takahata, and Toshio Suzuki, is a well-known Japanese animation studio. It is recognised for its hand-drawn animation, detailed backgrounds, and emotionally engaging storytelling.

Individuals across the world are sharing Ghibli renditions of famous movie moments, memes, and even artistic interpretations of breaking news. Some of the posts are going viral.


One user took to X to share his versions from popular movie franchises Star Wars, Harry Potter and The Godfather.


Some even posted animations mimicking full scenes from films, including this one from Interstellar.


One user made an animation out of US president Donald Trump's infamous meeting with his Ukrainian counterpart Volodymyr Zelenskyy.


Indian users of ChatGPT asked the bot to recreate scenes from iconic Bollywood films, including Hera Pheri, Dilwaje Dulhaniya Le Jayenge and more.


OpenAI founder Sam Altman joined in the fun and changed his profile picture to that of himself in Ghibli form.

One user wrote on X, "honestly openai is incredibly fortunate the positive vibes of ghibli was the first viral use of their model and not some awful deepfake nonsense."


To this, Altman said the company puts a lot of thought into "the initial examples we show when we introduce new technology".
