Here’s a lowdown on Meta’s subscription plan

The subscription option ranges from 9.99 Euros per month for the web version to 12.99 Euros per month for the app versions.

AP
Global social media conglomerate Meta on Monday said it would start offering the users of its platforms in the European Union, European Economic Area and Switzerland a 'subscription option' to keep Facebook and Instagram "ad-free".

The subscription option ranges from 9.99 Euros per month for the web version to 12.99 Euros per month for the app versions. Meta said it is introducing subscription options for users to comply with the new regulations in the European Union. The company will continue offering ad-supported versions for users in these regions and use the browsing data or user data to serve them personalised items.

On the other hand, Meta will not use the data of subscribers of the paid version of Facebook and Instagram.

Ad-free model

The advertisement-free model that Meta is offering will cost users up to 12.99 Euros per month for one user. This means that for all the accounts on Facebook and Instagram linked together, Meta would charge users 9.99 Euros for all web-based accounts and 12.99 Euros for all accounts on mobile apps, iOS or Android.

These costs would, however, apply only until February 29, 2024. From March 1, 2024, Meta will charge users six Euros per month for the web and eight Euros for the mobile app if they plan to add more accounts to their Facebook or Instagram accounts. The ad-free model, which is a pivot from Meta's repeated claims of Facebook being always free, will only be available to users above 18 for now.
