The government will step up efforts towards the adoption of technology for the digitalisation of the economy and will incentivise states which implement business reform plans using digital methods, finance minister Nirmala Sitharaman said in her budget speech for 2024-25.

The government has successfully used technology over the last 10 years to improve productivity and bridge inequality in the economy. Public investment in digital infrastructure and innovations by the private sector has helped in improving access of all citizens, particularly the common people to market resources, health, and education, she said.

To further augment these capacities, the government will incentivise states to implement business reform action plans and digitalisation, the finance minister said.

“For improving data governance, collection, processing and management of data and statistics, different sectoral databases, including those established under the Digital India Mission will be utilised with active use of technology tools,” Sitharaman said.
