Google India head Sanjay Gupta on Wednesday said that he has taken charge as the American technology company’s new Asia Pacific (APAC) president.

In a post on LinkedIn, he said, “As I start my new role as Google's APAC President, this serves as a powerful reminder of the role we play as an enabler. APAC isn’t just any region; it’s the heart of global growth and innovation, home to half the world’s population and poised to lead the tech revolution.”
He took over from Scott Beaumont, who is set to retire from Google after 16 years at the end of this year.

“Scott’s leadership and vision has already paved the way for Google’s investments in APAC. We grew our footprint around the region, invested in technical infrastructure, focused on skills development and partnered with the technical and scientific community in the region to support APAC’s prowess,” Gupta said.

He said that APAC has tech-savvy users, skilled human capital, a thriving developer and startup ecosystem, and governments that see AI (artificial intelligence) as a path to economic growth.

He was recently at I/O Connect Bengaluru, Google’s developer conference, where 1,800 participants brainstormed ideas for leveraging Gemini, the company’s multimodal AI model.
