Google announced the all-cash deal in 2025, as it seeks to strengthen its cloud computing business in the AI era. It is the largest ever transaction sought by Google or its parent Alphabet.
As part of the deal, Wiz will operate as a distinct product line within Google Cloud and retain its brand, while its technology will be integrated more deeply across Google’s security and AI offerings.
Started in 2020 by the Israeli-born Assaf Rappaport and a team that sold a previous venture to Microsoft, Wiz is based in the United States.
“Nearly a year ago, we shared that Wiz would be joining Google… Today, as we officially begin our journey as a Google company, that belief feels real in a much deeper way,” Wiz said in a blog post, stressing that its mission “to help every organisation protect everything they build and run” remains unchanged.
For Google, the deal beefs its offerings up against AWS and Microsoft Azure by pairing Wiz’s cloud‑native security platform with its own threat intelligence, SecOps tools and AI capabilities. Wiz said its products will continue to support multicloud and hybrid environments.
"With the addition of Wiz, we will provide customers with a comprehensive platform to secure their cloud and hybrid environments, as well as accelerate threat prevention, detection, and response," Google Cloud CEO Thomas Kurian said in a post.
