Elon Musk on Thursday announced that X users with over 2,500 verified subscriber followers will get Premium services for free, while those with over 5,000 followers will be able to access Premium+ services free of charge.

The subscription plans provide an ad-free experience and enable users to edit their tweets, among other features. The Premium+ service will also allow users to access GrokAI, Musk's ChatGPT-style chatbot.

Musk also confirmed earlier this week that GrokAI will be accessible to Premium subscribers as well.

Launched in November last year, the chatbot is modelled after The Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy, and was designed to answer users' questions with humour and a "rebellious streak". Until now, Grok was available through an X Premium+ subscription, which costs users Rs 1,300 per month or Rs 13,600 per year.

This comes amid Musk's intensifying battle on the artificial intelligence (AI) battlefield with OpenAI chief Sam Altman.
