Elon Musk challenges wikipedia with his own Grokipedia
Grokipedia, which briefly crashed after its launch Monday afternoon, tallied more than 800,000 AI-generated encyclopedia entries, compared with Wikipedia's nearly 8 million human-written ones.

Tech billionaire Elon Musk on Tuesday launched the first version of his Wikipedia rival, Grokipedia. In a post on X, Musk said, "Grokipedia.com version 0.1 is now live. Version 1.0 will be 10X better, but even at 0.1 it’s better than Wikipedia imo."
Grokipedia is an AI-powered online encyclopedia developed by Musk's artificial intelligence startup xAI, positioned as a more "truthful and independent" alternative to Wikipedia.
It went live at grokipedia.com with 885,279 articles. The platform operates using content generated and fact-checked by xAI's Grok chatbot rather than relying on crowdsourced, anonymous human editors such as Wikipedia. Users cannot edit pages directly but can propose changes via a submission form.
Anti-Wikipedia
Musk has been using his platform X to slam Wikipedia and its "propaganda" and liberal bias. He has clarified many times that this new project is closer to his own conservative views.
Musk has publicly criticised Wikipedia in the past as well. Earlier this year, he voiced frustration after the site added an entry accusing him of making a Nazi salute at an event featuring US President Donald Trump. Musk vehemently denied the claim.
“Defund Wikipedia until balance is restored!” he had said back then, in reply to a post on X that criticised Wikipedia’s “mentions of political extremism”.
Last December, Musk urged people to stop giving money to Wikipedia, calling it ‘Wokepedia’ due to what he described as excessive spending on diversity, equity, and inclusion.
Jimmy Wales, a Wikipedia co-founder, said in an interview that he did not think AI could replace the site's accuracy.
