EKA Mobility hires Sohel Merchant as chief innovation officer

Electric mobility and technology company EKA by Pinnacle Mobility Solutions Tuesday named Sohel Merchant as its chief innovation officer (CIO).

Merchant has worked in the automotive industry for more than 20 years in the areas of vehicle engineering and programme management. He has worked at companies including Canoo, Tesla, Faraday Future and Ford Motor Company.

At Tesla, he was involved in the design of Model S and Model X vehicles.


“With his invaluable global experience, Sohel joins our robust senior leadership team. Together with our global management team, we look forward to continuing to deliver on cutting-edge solutions and redefining the future of sustainable transportation," Sudhir Mehta, founder and chairman of EKA, said in a statement.

Prior to EKA, Merchant was the cofounder and CTO at Canoo, where he helped design and innovate electric platforms and vehicles for the commercial sector, the US department of defence and NASA.

Mitsui (Japan) and VDL Groep (Netherlands) are equity partners in EKA, which aims to bring reliable and efficient mobility solutions to the masses.
