Competing with Google
Musk’s response highlights the competition between Grok’s and Google’s AI-driven services, particularly in language models and search.
An X user claimed, “Grok 3 will replace Google Search. People aren’t going to Google to search anymore. They are using apps like Grok now.” Musk reposted the statement.
Grok 3, the latest version of xAI’s chatbot, is positioned as a competitor to Google’s AI models, including Gemini.
Speaking at the World Government Summit in Dubai, Musk, in describing the chatbot’s abilities, stated, “At times, I think Grok 3 is scary smart.”
AI search competition
The competition in AI-powered search is intensifying. In December, OpenAI announced that its ChatGPT-powered internet search feature would be available to all users, challenging Google’s dominance.
Previously, OpenAI’s real-time search feature was limited to paying subscribers. The feature allows ChatGPT to summarise answers with links to sources, providing an alternative to traditional search engines. OpenAI later extended access to non-subscribers.
After the release of Grok 3, Musk posted on X, “The @xAI Grok 3 release will improve rapidly every day this week. Please report any issues as a reply to this post.”
Google CEO Sundar Pichai responded to the post saying, “Congrats on the progress! Look forward to trying it out.”
