ChatGPT outage: Thousands report access issues globally

ChatGPT users worldwide are facing access issues, with over 2,000 reports in the US and 550 in India. OpenAI has yet to comment. This adds to a series of outages in 2025, including major disruptions in July and June.

Many users around the world are experiencing issues with OpenAI's ChatGPT, prompting a wave of complaints on social media as access to the AI chatbot remains disrupted.

According to Downdetector, a website that tracks online service outages, more than 550 users in India and over 2,000 in the US reported problems by 2:00 PM. The reports suggest widespread difficulties in accessing or using ChatGPT, though the exact cause remains unclear.

As of now, OpenAI has not released an official statement addressing the issue.


Previous outages

Here are some of the previous ChatGPT outages that happened this year:

  • July 2025: Over 8,500 users in the US reported disruptions, marking one of the largest recent outages.
  • June 2025: OpenAI confirmed that both ChatGPT and its image generation tool, Sora, were temporarily unavailable.
  • January 2025: A global outage affected more than 3,000 users, though service was quickly restored.
