Karnataka IT/BT minister Priyank Kharge on Wednesday said his department would seek Cabinet nod to build a large tech park in Mangaluru. The Cabinet will take up the subject either this week or next week.

The tech park will come up on 3.25 acres of land, with a 3.5 lakh sq. ft. building and a working capital of Rs 3,500 crore, he said at the fifth edition of ‘Technovanza-2025’ organised by the Karnataka Digital Economy Mission (KDEM) in Mangaluru.

Kharge said the park would help Mangaluru grow in the tech sector in the coming years. He urged the local MLAs and MP to work together beyond party lines for the development of Mangaluru. The state government was ready to provide the necessary facilities for central programmes such as Viksit Bharat and Make in India and appealed to the local MP to take this forward.

The minister said Karnataka’s GCC policy was ambitious and targeted 500 new GCCs by 2029, adding 3.5 lakh jobs, and that the government would bring a sustainable development–oriented economic policy next month. The minister also pledged Rs 5 crore for ‘AI Elevate 100,’ urging other industry players to match the commitment by pledging Rs 5 crore each in the next KDEM meeting.

Kharge, responding to calls from KDEM chairman BV Naidu for a GIFT City in Karnataka, said the Centre has already rejected the demand, saying there could only be one such hub and the same had been granted to Gujarat. The Centre may well consider whether the state’s MPs pursue the demand with the PM and the finance minister.
