Bluesky launches custom feed for TikTok-style vertical videos

Bluesky has announced a custom feed for TikTok-style vertical videos in its mobile app, reflecting a growing trend among social platforms.

“We had to get in on the video action too — Bluesky now has custom feeds for video! Like any other feed, you can choose to pin these or not. Bluesky is yours to customize,” the company’s post read.

The feature, accessible for users in the Bluesky app's explore tab, includes a section for trending videos. Users can swipe vertically to browse through content and have the option to pin the feed to their home screen or add it to their list of feeds.


The firm has advised users to restart their app if the new custom video feed does not appear.

Challenges for TikTok

This rollout comes amid ongoing challenges for TikTok, which remains unavailable on the App Store and Play Store in some regions due to service disruptions.

Amid disruptions affecting TikTok and other ByteDance apps like CapCut and Lemon8 in the US, Bluesky has seen notable growth, surpassing 28 million users over the weekend.

Competitors respond

Other platforms are also making efforts to grab the opportunity. X, owned by Elon Musk, recently launched a vertical video feed in the US, while Meta introduced a new video editing app, Edits, positioned as a competitor to CapCut.

TikTok service disruptions

TikTok stopped working for 170 million Americans on Saturday after the US Supreme Court on Friday ruled against TikTok's bid to avoid a ban that could shut the app down. The company began restoring its services earlier on Sunday after President-elect Donald Trump said he would revive the app's access in the US when he returns to power on Monday.
