Bluesky clocks 20 million users, but yet to catch up with X, Threads

Bluesky, amicroblogging platform and X’s emerging nemesis, has gained 20 million followers within a span of just about one month - an impressivefeat for a relatively new app. Given the app’s growth, this has given rise to the speculation that it could soon become one of the top competitors of X alongside Instagram’s Threads.

According to data from Similarweb, Bluesky is only 1.5 times behind Meta’s Threads in terms of daily active users in the US.

Globally, Bluesky hasn’t yet surpassed daily website visits of Threads but if it maintains the growth rate, this might happen soon enough.


Bluesky’s mobile app is seeing an increase in usage after the US presidential elections with a 519% increase compared to the last 10 months in the US, and 352% increase for the same in the UK, as posted by newsportal TechCrunch from Similarweb's reports.

Bluesky is currently the top ranked app in the iOS App Store and is ranked second in Google Play, according to Appfigures.

However, it is still not close to X in terms of daily active user count, which is 10 times higher than that of the new app.

Lots of apps are benefiting from the mass exodus from X but is that enough for an emerging app like Bluesky to have a faceoff with a social media titan like X and even Threads? We will have to wait and watch.
