Beyond scale: India’s payments leaders to map the future for UPI, do you have your ‘two cents’ to share?

India has recorded unparalleled growth in the UPI ecosystem, in terms of penetration and scale. The question now is, what is next? At this Mindgate roundtable, presented by The Economic Times, payments leaders will map the way forward, share exper...

India has emerged as a global leader in digital payments, with the scale it has achieved in UPI. The way India pays has already evolved, and transaction volumes are skyrocketing to unprecedented levels; the conversation is now increasingly drifting towards: what next?

Sample this: In August 2026, UPI in India processed 24.5 billion transactions, amounting to Rupees 29.8 lakh crore (around 309 billion USD), growing more than 22% on a year-on-year basis. We can safely say that UPI has become a foundational layer of India’s digital economy.

This formidable scale has brought along a new set of questions. Pervasive adoption has been achieved; what next? Where would the next phase of growth emerge from? Do payment economics need to be rethought? How to build resilience and trust? And the most important of the questions: is there a ceiling for the scale, and what can be built on top of that scale/ceiling?

A company, an individual, a technology platform, or a bank won’t be able to answer these questions. The questions need to be tackled and brainstormed upon by people who have built, operate, and reshaped India’s payments ecosystem, and continue to do so.

Keeping this need of the conversation for the future in mind, Mindgate, in association with The Economic Times, has set the ball rolling with an event like none other around UPI and the future of the ecosystem.

The next UPI wave: Mindgate and The Economic Times are bringing together a select group of payments leaders, including CEOs, founders, CPOs, CTOs, Heads of Products and Heads of Payments for an exclusive, closed-door roundtable to be held in Mumbai on October 9.

These are people who are busy building the next phase of India’s payments ecosystem and have deep expertise in the domain. To assemble them around a single table and have conversations vis-a-vis the future of UPI in our country is in itself unprecedented.

Are you among the invited leaders?

The roundtable, titled “The Next Wave of UPI: Growth & Innovation,” will explore the path forward for India’s UPI ecosystem and answer the pertinent questions. The roundtable is designed to be a peer-level conversation and not just another conference built around presentations and panels.

Are you a CEO/founder/CPO/CTOs/Head of Products/Heads of Payments with valuable insights around these themes, and want to be a part of the discussion? It is an “invite-only” event, but here is a way to navigate!

There is a lot to expect from the roundtable: You can have a seat among senior leaders and decision-makers from the industry to put forth your two cents on building up and above the UPI scale in India. Interact with them on a peer level.

This is an opportunity to share perspectives, experiences, and have meaningful conversations around challenges as well as opportunities for the next decade. Following the Roundtable, there will be relevant editorial and digital visibility within The Economic Times ecosystem and its social media assets.

There is also an opportunity for a post-event video interaction, which will be pushed across the ET platforms. You can check previous roundtables and related content here.

We will gladly put your seat around the table if you are a payments leader and have a thought or two to share regarding the future of UPI in India. The catch, however, is we are running out of seats quickly. You will have to hurry!
