Auto-booking app Namma Yatri goes live in Chennai

With nearly 10,000 drivers already on board, Namma Yatri plans to add 1 lakh drivers in the next 6 months in Chennai. It also plans to expand to other cities in the state.

Community ride-hailing app Namma Yatri launched its zero-commission services in Chennai on Monday in collaboration with the Open Network for Digital Commerce (ONDC).

Transport and road safety commissioner A Shanmuga Sundaram launched the app in Tamil Nadu.

With nearly 10,000 drivers already on board, Namma Yatri plans to add 1 lakh drivers in the next 6 months in Chennai. It also plans to expand to other cities in the state.


The app is customised for Chennai, including the availability of driver app in Tamil and an enhanced user booking experience to prominent locations such as Valluvar Kottam, Arignar Anna Zoological Park, Birla Planetarium, Lighthouse, Tidel Park, Rajiv Gandhi Government Hospital, the company said in a statement.

Namma Yatri launched its services in Delhi via ONDC earlier this month. It has onboarded more than 5,000 drivers in the national capital onto the platform.

As of now, the app serves over 2 lakh drivers and 40 lakh customers, facilitating more than 2.5 crore trips. According to the statement, the app has enabled drivers to earn over Rs 360 crore without any commission.

Namma Yatri was first rolled out in Kochi in 2020, and its family of apps is now present in cities including Delhi, Bengaluru, Hyderabad and Kolkata.
