The new entity will offer auto insurance to Ather customers across India in partnership with multiple insurers, the company said. The move is aimed at streamlining insurance offerings, improving customer experience, and creating a recurring revenue stream by leveraging Ather’s user base, it added.
Bringing insurance distribution in-house would allow the EV company to innovate around electric vehicle-specific insurance products, simplify renewals, and potentially improve insurance attach-rates over time, Ather said. The platform will cater primarily to its own customers, resulting in no additional customer acquisition costs and requiring limited incremental investment, the company added.
“We have always believed that a good ownership experience goes beyond the vehicle itself,” Ravneet Singh Phokela, chief business officer, Ather Energy, said in a statement. He added that closer integration of insurance with the Ather ecosystem would make the process simpler, more transparent, and better aligned with how customers use their vehicles.
The insurance initiative forms part of Ather’s broader strategy to build an integrated ecosystem around its electric two-wheelers, spanning vehicles, charging infrastructure, servicing, accessories, warranty products, software, and insurance, the company said.
